Recently, a customer sent a sample of an aluminum can for sealing verification, hoping to use visual inspection to determine whether the can's seal was intact and reliable. Based on this requirement, the Zhixiang Shijue Technology team quickly built an intelligent camera sealing inspection system and conducted comprehensive testing and verification on the sample.
Through this test, the intelligent camera performed excellently in terms of image clarity, edge recognition capabilities, and stability, successfully meeting the customer's inspection needs. Below, we will explain this solution.
The detection solution utilizes our independently developed intelligent camera as the core device, paired with an industrial network cable and power adapter for data transmission and power supply.
The camera is fixed in place from bottom to top, approximately 50mm from the can opening. This distance was determined after multiple rounds of adjustments to ensure clear imaging of the can opening edge while effectively avoiding the impact of reflections and shadows on recognition stability.
The intelligent camera integrates lens, light source control, and processing unit functions, allowing the entire solution to operate independently without an external industrial control computer. This makes it more suitable for production lines with limited space and fast cycle times, such as food packaging lines.

In this test, the smart camera demonstrated excellent imaging performance: High image sharpness: Transition areas, indentations, and fine structures at the edge of the can opening were clearly rendered; Good noise suppression: Image quality remained stable under different lighting conditions; Strong resistance to high-brightness reflections: While the metal material of the can opening is prone to specular reflection, the image maintained good readability after brightness compensation and algorithm enhancement.
These advantages ensured a reliable basis for subsequent assessments of the can's sealing performance.

The intelligent camera's built-in visual algorithm is optimized for can opening seal detection. Through feature extraction and comparative analysis of the can opening area, it achieves real-time judgment:
Green indicator: Good seal, no abnormal features
Red indicator: Poor seal, deformation or gaps present
The algorithm mainly includes the following technical modules:
Edge Detection:
Locates key edges of the can opening through high-pass filtering and gradient calculation to determine structural integrity.
Shape & Contour Analysis:
Fits the circular contour of the can opening to detect any offset, deformation, or dents.
Brightness Uniformity:
Analyzes brightness changes in the can opening sealing ring area to identify shadow differences caused by poor sealing.
After multiple sample entries, the system establishes a reference model for this product, making the algorithm's judgment results more stable and accurate.

After multiple rounds of continuous testing, the detection system demonstrated excellent stability:
The image frame rate and processing speed were well-matched, with no stuttering or frame drops.
High accuracy and good repeatability in identifying sealing anomalies.
The algorithm maintained stable output across different batches of samples.
